THE FASHION INDUSTRY CATCHES ONTO SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS

  • Expressed in an article and infographic on The Drum, 76% of fashion fanatics stay connected via smartphones during Fashion Week activities worldwide. Millennial Media, with help from the Internet Advertising Bureau, executed a survey in January of 2014 to find that 97% of fashion lovers operate their smartphones while in the act of shopping.

  • An entry featured on The Conversation states that journalists have to up the ante because the encroaching success of fashion bloggers. With the success of these bloggers, The British Fashion Council has created a limited grouping of 3,000 fashion bloggers to cover London Fashion Week. The article also touched on the idea that anyone can be a commentator these days, so journalists really have to be on their game if they want to remain sought after.

  • The Chicago Tribune ran an article this year on February 16, with an excerpt speaking about how social media has aided the MODA Spring Fashion Show. Lauren Kelly-Jones, a University of Chicago student and MODA director, expressed how social media has helped with the funding and promotion of this fashion super-event.
